DOA 6 Last Round. What the Hell?

“Dead or Alive 6 Last Round” was announced on Feb 12th, alongside the announcement that a new DOA (fighting) game is in the works. Wow! Big day for pervert retards like me. I knew that DOA 6 was (and still is) mostly disliked, but I figured now would be a good time to redownload it and give it another try since I never really gave it a fair shot before. I am not the only one that had this thought, because I have been able to find ranked games online relatively quickly, compared to when I first got the game in 2023 and couldn’t find any.
Okay, so it’s not as good as 5LR. The meter is dumb. Unlocking costumes is pointlessly complicated, and the best ones are locked behind DLC. You have to pay real money to change a character’s hair color. There is no tag mode. The roster is a downgrade. This game fucking bombed, and I think it deserves the hate it gets. However, it is still DOA at it’s core, so I’ve been having a pretty good time.
Unfortunately, it seems to me (and many other DOA fans) that 6LR is going to be a complete rip-off. Here’s what I’m gathering:
- 6LR is $40 with no free or discounted upgrade for those that already own DOA 6.
- The most significant features of 6LR are a new photo mode and the inclusion of 5 characters that were previously DLC. Those characters are Rachel, Momiji, Phase 4, Nyotengu, and Tamaki. All of them except for Tamaki are included in 5LR. $40 to play as characters I can already use in a better DOA game? This update also does not include any DLC costumes, only characters. Photo mode couldn’t possibly be that cool.
- Mai and Kula, the SNK guest characters, are being removed from 6LR. If you already bought them in DOA 6, eat shit.
- The widely criticized hair coloring feature is also being removed.
The whole package seems like a massive middle finger to anyone who has actually stuck with DOA 6 all this time. Imagine paying $60 at launch, buying the DLC characters as they came out, and maybe splurging on some costumes and hair colors. Now pay 40 fucking dollars to have shit you paid for deleted from the game. Have fun with photo mode, asshole. Don’t forget to buy the next season pass.
New players have no incentive to jump in either, since 6LR will not have crossplay and there has been no mention of rollback netcode.
Who is this for? It just seems like a rip-off no matter who you are or how you look at it. I know I’m just some guy that can’t even sell stickers at a profit, so I guess I have no business yapping about what they should do, but I’m going to do it anyway.
If crossplay and rollback netcode are off the table, I feel like it would make the most sense to go all in on the dress up/photo mode aspect of the game. Don’t remove the hair colors, add more! More hairstyles, glasses, all that stuff. Maybe they do plan on adding stuff like that down later the line, but if they’re going to nickel and dime people later on, why add a $40 barrier to entry? Because there are people will pay for it anyway, I guess.
I don’t know, man. It’s just baffling how you can buy a complete version of SF4, SF5, Tekken 7, MK11, etc. and yet Dead or Alive 5 and 6 are completely fragmented and fucked up. Oh, look at that. All the season passes are on sale for both 5LR and 6. It is tempting to buy one or two for 5LR, but I guess that makes me exactly the kind of sucker they’re hoping for! Fuck! If I buy anything, I’m part of the problem. Weak men like me, and Nyotengu’s stupid fucking bird tits are the reason everything sucks. I miss my Xbox.
