My Xbox Is Broken and I Couldn't Be Happier
Monday December 22, 2025
Despite my “maerk.xyz” branded online persona being “manchild, but like, cool”- I am actually just the regular kind of time wasting manchild.
My Xbox, which has been working well enough since making that post, started randomly shutting off. Obviously I’m not actually happy about adding a second Xbox to the pile of broken Xboxes. The title of this post is just a reference to this PUP song about getting caught jerking off.
Over the years I’ve been doing crazy mental gynastics to justify spending so much of my unfathomably valuable time on video games and other stupid shit. In reality, there is absolutely no reason for me to have 20 hours in Dead or Alive Xtreme. No reason for me to make a website that allows me to “more efficiently” drain my precious time on this beautiful Earth while staring at Hitomi’s ass through a phosphor coated window.
Being bitter about modern technology doesn’t automatically make a person immune to iPad kid behavior. Instead of an iPad, I have an assortment of disfunctional old shit. I usually say I like old stuff because it’s easier to repair, but I can’t remember the last time I successfully repaired anything.
The power problem with this Xbox could be caused by a number of things. Randomly shutting off might be due to a bad capacitor in the PSU. In the last post I talked about how the power button doesn’t work, and it turns itself on as soon as it gets plugged in. I think the clock capacitor leaked and damaged a trace on the motherboard. Although I removed the clock capacitor the day I got the Xbox, the problem seems to have gotten worse. The disc eject button now turns the console on and off. I’m wondering if the cold weather could be effecting the aging electronics inside my garage. I don’t know. I don’t care right now. I’m not in a rush to buy another Xbox or attempt a repair.
I keep thinking about time. I am dying for sleep right now, but I still have 4 more hours of nothing to get through before I’m done with this night shift. Story of my fucking life.
