MP Me in the Balls
Wednesday May 10, 2023
This is a small update but enough has happened that I think it’s worth writing about. I got the mounting plates and put the original levers back in. My RAP4s are still in shambles. I also got yellow buttons and ONE yellow ball top because Arcade Shock only had one in stock. I’ll worry about the other one later. I ripped the Tekken art off, and it was way more annoying than I thought it would be. It’s still not completely off, but it looks a million times better now. It was actually 2 layers of stickers. At some point this machine had a KOF game in it which is kind of interesting.
In the post above I mentioned that the one monitor got all fucked up for a while but fixed itself while I wasn’t looking. It kept doing that every time I turned it on, but I realized I just had to mess with the horizontal hold knob. Now it’s fine. The MP button is still killing me. I swapped the controls for the P1 and P2 sides and the problem got swapped too, so that tells me the issue isn’t under the P2 panel, and that it must be on the JAMMA harness end. It’s a rats nest down there, and I don’t really know what to make of it, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out eventually.
I also ordered new coin slots, some extra panel screws, and new instruction space stuff. All that should arrive in about 10 billion years. I may be thinking too much about aesthetics considering one of my buttons is still fucked up, but after all that I think the next big thing it needs is a paint job on the yellowed parts. I’m gonna dump my brain real quick:
- I see New Versus City decals for sale, but not regular Versus City art. Maybe I could peel mind off and send them to this guy.
- The little metal coin return buttons are rusty, but I can bead blast them and I bet they’d look perfect.
- I still need to decide what will be “the game.” I’m heavily leaning towards Alpha 3. I even set the MiSTer to auto boot Alpha 3 when the machine turns on. That website I linked above sells a marquee holder, so I’ll buy that and some move strips at some point.
- All the game art I see is obviously designed for an Astro, so I’m wondering if I should buy 2 Alpha 3 art sets or just split the move lists across both sides like it is on every other Versus I’ve seen. Owning a Versus is like having twins. Expensive little bastards.
I am happy with the progress so far, and I truly do not care about how much money I have spent.
